Occupy Central Vermont Survey Results

12/07/2011 in Survey WG

There were 120 total responses (some partial), with more than 80% reporting to be from Central Vermont. The average age of those responding to the question was 45. No respondents reported being Republican or right-leaning independents. About 25% reported being Progressives and about 11% reported being Democrats.

From each group of items, the following items received the most “Very Important” ratings in their group:

  • “Creating opportunities for group discussions and education (of ourselves and community members) about important issues” (for Organizing, with 76.5% “Very Important”)
  • “Reducing economic inequality” (for Economic, with 94.1% “Very Important” – Note: 100% marked either Very or Somewhat Important)
  • “Fighting [list of intolerances]” (for Rights, with 73.3% “Very Important” – Note: sexism was left out of the list erroneously, and our review did not catch the omission until the survey was already printed and published online. Our apologies!)
  • “Ending corporate personhood” (for Corporations, with 93.0% “Very Important”)
  • “Support conservation of energy and the environment” (for Energy and Environment, with 81.7% “Very Important”)
  • “Ending the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan” (for Government, with 86.8% “Very Important”)
  • “Making healthcare affordable” (for Specific Issues, with 81.3% “Very Important”)

The issue areas were ranked in the following order, in terms of their importance to Occupy Central Vermont:

  1. Economic (Avg. Resp. 5.03)
  2. Corporations (Avg. Resp. 4.43)
  3. Rights (Avg. Resp. 3.73)
  4. Energy & Environment (Avg. Resp. 3.41)
  5. Government (Avg. Resp. 3.33)
  6. Other Issues (Avg. Resp. 1.40)

Lots of great open-ended responses!
