That’s great, Daniel. I agree that lack of participation from local Vermont Occupies is a real problem. Joseph, who has been part of our group, is involved, so maybe he knows more about this. He told me he was hoping this would be a way of bringing the various local groups together.

I too am a bit disappointed with how their event is evolving. I don’t really hold it against them, and I recognize it is most likely not so intentional. It is a lot of the same old stuff rehashed, but I believe this is a really good opportunity for them to step up as another leader who ”gets it” – eg, that we, those of us with ”privileges” need to reconsider how we share ourselves and our worth.

As an example, Goddard could be A) connecting leaders, occupiers, local residents, THROUGH the organizing process and how the conference is actually put on; B) help to bring in the marginalized / struggling peoples from around our area, and who are unable to make it due to the financial / travel hurdles. Goddard is in a fantastic position to break the cycle and not offer up the same old crap we’re all accustomed to – breaking the cycle would ensure this conference were founded on an inclusive model, not exclusive.
